It started with a dog called Carly

Carly was an Amstaff mix puppy, purchased by an unprepared family member and quickly handed over to teenaged me. As the family dog-lover, I knew how to teach her the basics—sit, lie down, come when called. But I had no idea how to stop her from chewing the carpet, destroying the couch, or barking at everyone outside.â
I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed by your dog’s behaviour and even question if they’re the right fit for your home. That’s exactly how I felt about Carly. Frustration turned into resentment, and I’m sure she resented me too.

Determined to 'fix' Carly's rowdy behaviours, I threw myself into learning more about dog behaviour and training. I took online courses, read dozens of books, and visited local training clubs; and I discovered the importance of breed-specific enrichment, and mental and physical exercise.
â
To my amazement, giving Carly the right outlets for her mental and physical needs didn't just stop her destructive behaviours - it transformed our entire relationship.ââ
Overtime, i realised it wasn't really carly's behaviour that needed to change; it was our bond, and the way that we lived together.
i'm a proud cat and dog mum
(but don't ask me to train your cat!)
Outside of working with my awesome clients, I love to learn new tricks and obedience skills with my standard poodle, Rip!
â
Rip and I debuted his sporting career in 2024, competing in Trick Trials. Rip won his first official sporting title (Trick Starter) and came third place at our second-ever trial together in January 2025, when Rip was just over a year old!
â
When we're not working on our tricks, you can find Rip and I on a bushwalk, or curled up with my cat Monty, watching an old Louis Theroux doco.
â
My 2025 goals include completing my Cert IV in Animal Behaviour and Training, earning more sporting titles with Rip, and helping more devoted Tassie dog guardians build brighter bonds with their dogs.
â
Thank you so much for checking out Brighter Dog Training, feel free to reach out here if you have any questions for me. Can't wait to hear from you đŸ
